Mitsui Chemicals has announced that its affiliate, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals Inc., has successfully commenced operations at newly established production facilities for methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) as of late September. MDI is a crucial raw material in the production of polyurethane, which plays a vital role in numerous applications across various industries, including automotive components, bedding and furniture, insulation for residential and commercial buildings, elastic fibers, and a variety of adhesives.
The global demand for MDI is anticipated to grow at an annual rate of 6%. This surge is driven by several factors, including international policy measures focused on enhancing residential insulation as part of broader climate change mitigation strategies. Additionally, economic growth across regions is contributing to increased consumption of MDI in multiple sectors. To effectively respond to this escalating demand, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals is strategically expanding its production capabilities.
