PUdaily | Updated: September 14, 2024

According to PowerOutage.us, as of 12 noon of September 13 (GMT+8 Time), there were 149,218 power outages reported in Louisiana since Hurricane Francine made landfall. With the weakening of Francine from a Category 2 hurricane to a Category 1 hurricane as the center of the storm pushes inland, the power outages have fallen back to about 40,499 till 3:07 PM September 14 (GMT+8 Time).

From September 10, several chemical companies were shutting down their plants in Louisiana, with others taking other precautionary measures as the eye of Francine. But according to latest tracking, these plants are gradually back to normal operations from shutdown.

BASF: earlier on 10 September started procedures to idle operation in Geismar, North Geismar and Vidalia, Louisiana. But the operation of BASF’s MDI facility in Geismar hasn’t been affected by this Hurricane, according to the confirmation from this company.

Shell: On September 13, Shell said its Norco and Geismar facilities were in the process of returning to normal operations after Hurricane Francine moved across Louisiana. "During the storm, our Norco hydrocracker shut down due to a brief power outage but did not sustain any damage. We are keeping it shut-in ahead of a routine, planned turnaround, which has now been moved up," the company said.

Roehm: took its methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Fortier, Louisiana offline on September 10. No newly updates yet.

DOW: Olin, as one of Dow Chemical's upstream raw material supplier, declared force majeure for chlor-alkali products on July 10, 2024 due to the impact of Hurricane Beryl, which forced Dow Chemical's MDI facility to operate with reduced load. On Aug 28, Olin lifted the force majeure, and Dow said its Louisiana facility is safely returning to normal operations.
