Virginia, US – The International Sleep Products Association’s Mattress Industry Trends Report for 2023 shows that US mattress sales were down by 6.3% year-on-year in dollar terms in the year. Wholesale sales for the year totalled $9.8bn. This figure includes mattresses and stationary foundations, and both domestically manufactured and imported products.
The number of units shipped fell too, to 39.7m. This is a decline of 8.0% on the 2022 figure.
While the lion’s share were made in the US, the drop was higher in both dollar terms and units. Sales values fell 7.1% to $8.5m, and unit shipments were down 9.0% to 26.4m. However, the average unit price for domestically produced mattresses and foundations was up by 2.1%.
The association has also created a new online portal for members to view statistics and reports, including a dashboard page. Data that can be used to inform business strategy also includes forecasts and cost surveys.
