From May 22 to 24, 2024, the highly anticipated "Polyurethane Technology International Forum (PTIF 2024)" was held in Shanghai. The forum, jointly organized by Shanghai Polyurethane Industry Association, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and PUdaily, focused on the core theme of "green, energy-efficient, and sustainable". During the forum, Changhua Chemical's technical expert, Klaus-Dieter Schoen, delivered a presentation titled "Make Polyurethane Greener by Using CO₂ as Raw Material: Introduction to Carnol® Polyols." He showcased the company's latest development, Carnol® PCE, which offers environmentally friendly solutions for polyurethane products by using carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a raw material, thus leading the industry towards a low-carbon future.

As global climate change becomes increasingly critical, reducing carbon emissions and achieving green and sustainable development have become universal goals. Changhua Chemical actively responds to the national strategies of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Leveraging its technical advantages and extensive customer resources in the polyether polyol production field, the company continuously explores and practices polyurethane production technology using CO₂ as a raw material.

In June 2022, Changhua Chemical entered into a strategic partnership with Econic Technologies in the UK to jointly advance the research and production of the CO₂ polyether project. This project aims for an annual production capacity of 1.06 million tons of CO₂ polyether, with an estimated annual CO₂ consumption of 318,000 tons. By collaborating with local enterprises to capture CO₂, this initiative significantly reduces local carbon emissions and provides a new raw material source for the production of high-value products, further promoting green economic development and achieving a win-win situation in environmental protection and economic benefits.
