On April 23rd , Wanhua Chemical, a global leading chemical company, presented a variety of sustainable and cutting-edge products on CHINAPLAS 2024 Media Day. Yong He, the general manager of Wanhua Advanced Material Solutions BU, Naibo Chu, the general manager of Wanhua Performance Polymers BU, Tianlong Zheng, the assistant general manager of Wanhua Petrochemical Sales Co., LTD., Hao Jiang, the POE sales manager of Wanhua Advanced Material Solutions BU attended the conference. With the theme of "Plastics for a better life", the company shared its breakthrough technologies and sustainable development strategy.
At present, the transformation of green and low-carbon economic is accelerating, which has brought a huge demand for high-performance plastic materials and technologies. Therefore, Wanhua Chemical strengthens its R&D competitiveness and makes effort to promote products to high-end, green and intelligent future, empowering the industry to a sustainable future.
Leading High-performance Materials Development of the Industry
After years of technological research, Wanhua Chemical launches WANSUPER® polyolefin elastomer POE products in this exhibition. It can be widely used in photovoltaic (PV), plastics modification, medical treatment, packaging, and many other industry, which is a high-end polyolefin material with high technological barriers and unique performance advantages.
In clean energy field, PV has become one of the main directions of the global energy transformation. In recent years, the rapid rise of N-type batteries has made the performance requirements of encapsulation film more stringent. PV encapsulation film supported by WANSUPER® POE has high water vapor barrier rate, good weather resistance, excellent transparency and strong PID resistance, which can effectively improve the module power generation efficiency and prolong the module service life. In January this year, Wanhua Chemical cooperated with First and Trina Solar, which mainly focuses on the manufacturing and sales of POE particles, to build a potential ecosystem of POE encapsulation film through collaborative R&D and production.
As for automotive industry, lightweight has become an important trend. WANSUPER® POE has low density, excellent weather resistance and good compatibility with PP, which can be widely used in many automotive parts, such as bumpers, airbag cover, sound insulation mats etc. With the increasing penetration rate of new energy vehicles and the continuous growth of demand in the automobile manufacturing industry, the demand for POE will further grow rapidly.
In addition, POE products can also be applied in shoes industry for foaming, bringing consumers a light and comfortable experience with its excellent resilience and low density. In cable industry, POE can be used as a toughening modification during producing wires and cables, hot-melt adhesives, and cable sheathing. Meanwhile, Wanhua Chemical is dedicated to develop POE applying in medical treatment, special emulsion, packaging and other fields.
Wanhua Chemical’s POE products have been verified in the market for three years since the pilot plant was put into operation, and have been recognized by many brand customers. In the future, we will continue to optimize the process formulations and strive to create high-performance full-series POE products for customers.
In this exhibition, we also bring a series of high-performance innovative materials and solutions such as PA12, polysulfone materials (PSU polysulfone / PPSU polyphenylsulfone), PCR materials, light guide PC, high-flow PC, highly refractive PC, coc/cop, etc., which will help empower the high efficiency and sustainable development of various application industries.
Deepening Sustainable Development for a Better Life
In 2023, Wanhua Chemical released the new dual carbon goals, promising to achieve peak carbon no later than 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2048 (Scope 1+2), by focusing on clean energy, energy efficiency, and innovative technologies.
In terms of clean energy, in order to reduce carbon emissions, Wanhua Chemical strengthens carbon footprint management from the source and achieves energy transformation through equity investment in clean energy, such as PV, wind power, and nuclear power. The proportion of clean electricity in our industrial parks in China is expected to exceed 50% by 2030, and ultimately reach 100% by 2035.
In terms of energy efficiency, the company strengthens technology driven efforts, replacing coal with natural gas, and gradually promoting low carbon energy adaption. In Hehai project, Wanhua Chemical deploys a world pioneering intelligent heat integration technology to recycle excess heat and benefit local industries and communities, which initiating a revolutionary progress in zero emissions in chemical industry. It is expected that after the completion of all projects, CO2 emissions can be reduced by more than 2.6 million tons per year.
In terms of innovative technologies, the company continues to promote technological innovation iteration, especially in plastic recycling, bio-based products, carbon dioxide utilization, and other green solutions. Among them, the world's pioneering HCI catalytic oxidation technology is able to reduce hydrochloric acid generation, which can deduct 700,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. On other hand, the world pioneering MDI waste brine recycling technology replacing the ion exchange membrane electrolysis process, can reduce carbon emissions by 140,000 tons annually.
