KraussMaffei has unveiled its latest ColorForm mixhead, designed to optimize production efficiency and sustainability in the manufacturing process, particularly in multi-component injection molding.
The ColorForm mixhead facilitates the creation of scratch-resistant surfaces by injecting a thermoplastic base carrier initially, followed by the application of polyurethane or polyurea as a surface material in subsequent cycles. This process is made possible by the RimStar Flex ColorForm reaction machine working in tandem with the mixhead, which precisely delivers materials into the cavity. Notably, the mixhead's color nozzle ensures smooth and efficient color changes.
Compact in design, the mixhead seamlessly integrates into the mold and can be easily positioned within the clamping area of the injection molding machine. Additionally, a centralized media supply system ensures consistent temperature control and mixing quality throughout the production process.
KraussMaffei highlights that the ColorForm mixheads offer significant improvements in surface quality, particularly for automotive applications, both interior and exterior. These surfaces exhibit transparency, durability, and high strength, with the added advantage of self-healing properties. By streamlining the production of substrates and surfaces in a single step, this technology enhances efficiency and supports sustainable manufacturing practices.
