Toray Expands Eco-friendly PBT Resin Offerings

PUdaily | Updated: October 10, 2023

Toray Industries Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) has further expanded its lineup of high-performance grade chemical-recycled polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin products. The company depolymerizes waste PBT from manufacturing processes and repolymerizes the material. The new offerings include low-warpage and hydrolysis-resistant glass fiber-reinforced grades. Toray is now providing samples.

According to the company, the properties of these recycled materials are equivalent to those of PBT resin from virgin raw materials. Toray expects them to aid in reducing the carbon footprint; it obtained verification for its new products based on ISO 14021:2016 from SGS Japan Inc. (Yokohama).

The development of chemical- and material-recycled grades using post-consumer recycled material derived from recovered products is also underway. Toray will commercialize such recycled PBT products as Ecouse Toraycon, an eco-friendly resin material.
