2021 China Rigid Blended Polyols Market Report Sample

Part I: A review of the rigid blended polyols market in 2021 and its outlook 2022

Market review: 2021 marks the beginning of China's "14th Five-Year Plan" period and is also the year when China’s economy sets back on course after the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. This year, the market has experienced ups and downs. Extreme weather such as torrential rain, flood and cold wave come even as the country is suffering the pandemic. This, coupled with soaring ocean freight and blocked cross-border transportation, has exacerbated the supply-demand imbalance, which has resulted in wild fluctuations in the polyether polyols market. In particular, the rigid polyols price has ranged between RMB 12,000-16,100/ton. On the other hand, the MDI prices fell after rising. At the beginning of the year, multiple MDI manufacturers in North America declared force majeure on their units on the cold wave. China led the world in recovering the MDI value chain, which provided upward momentum for the MDI prices. In late February, the domestic PMDI price rose to RMB 27,000-28,000/ton, and that of pure MDI increased to RMB 28,000-29,000/ton. Later, as a result of the sluggish demand from downstream sectors and capacity expansion at domestic manufacturers, MDI prices set on a downward trajectory. The price of PMDI hit bottom at RMB 16,200/ton in early June, and that of pure MDI hit bottom at about RMB 18,500/ton in mid-June. From July to October, due to the fluctuations in supply and demand, the prices of PMDI and pure MDI consolidated.

Market outlook: MDI and polyether polyol producers around the world have plans for capacity expansion and putting new plants into production in 2022. Meanwhile, the strains on energy supply and the goals of "peaking carbon dioxide emissions" and "carbon neutrality" will bring both challenges and opportunities to manufacturers and buyers. Market prices are also likely to experience rapid fluctuations.
