Court Orders Nova to Pay Dow $1 Billion in Joffre Ethylene Dispute
2019-09-24    []
Dow says the Court of the Queen’s Bench in Alberta, Canada, has signed a judgment ordering Nova Chemicals to pay Dow C$1.43 billion ($1.08 billion) for damages related to the operation of their jointly owned ethylene plant in Joffre, Alberta, through 2012. Nova, which has the option to appeal the judgment, could not be reached for comment.

The initial ruling, issued in June 2018, found that Nova had violated contractual agreements with Dow by operating the unit at less than full capacity. Dow says it expects to receive additional damages for operations after 2012.
